Violence Against Women: A Silent Cry For Help

ABSTRACT
“There is a global epidemic of violence against women, both within the conflict zones and within societies at peace, and it is still treated as a lesser crime and lower priority.”-Angelina Joile. Violence against women is not a new concept, they have existed throughout history in various forms. They have been imprinted in our society so deep that now it has become a common phenomenon. Violence against women is a devastating and dehumanizing experience as it affects not only their physical self but also their mental wellbeing.
This article focuses on violence against women. It aims to show the shift in the treatment of women during different eras and the reason to why these occurrences of violence happen against women. But with the changing society, these silent cries of women are being heard, this article also introduces to the different legislations and safeguards implemented by the state for protection of women from violence. But the sad part is in spite of new legislations the position of women still remains same and despicable. This is because these practices cannot be eliminated just through legislations, there have to be proper implementation of these legislations as well.
Violence against women is increasing at an alarmingly rapid rate. The need for the hour is to protect our women from the hands of these perpetrators. Thus, this article further contains suggestions and recommendations to solve this issue.
