ABSTRACT
Sustainable development goals (SDGs) are of utmost importance in this day and age, and utilising intellectual property (IP) becomes essential to propelling innovation and creativity in the direction of accomplishing these goals. To show how intellectual property (IP) can spur advancement, this study examines the relationship between IP and sustainable development. IP encourages people and groups to invest in research and development targeted at tackling the urgent global issues listed in the SDGs by safeguarding inventions, designs, and creative works. This blog illustrates how intellectual property rights can help spread and encourage the use of sustainable technology and practices through case studies and analysis. It looks at how trade secrets, patents, trademarks, and copyrights might encourage the development and adoption of sustainable technology, renewable energy sources, and inclusive business structures. It also explores the significance of maintaining a healthy intellectual property environment, especially in developing nations, as this fosters innovation and facilitates access to basic commodities and services. The importance of cooperation between governments, corporations, academic institutions, and civil society in utilising intellectual property for sustainable development is also covered in this study. It highlights how, in order to guarantee that the advantages of innovation are shared fairly, policies and programs that promote technology transfer, capacity building, and knowledge sharing are required. In the end, this article makes the case that utilising an intellectual property is crucial to creating a sustainable future. IP has the potential to significantly contribute to the advancement of the SDGs and the creation of a more prosperous and equitable world for all people through encouraging innovation, safeguarding creative endeavours, and facilitating access to necessary technology.
