ABSTRACT

Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) is an existing fundamental genetic material, a complex molecule that contains all human body cells that varies from person to person. Crime exists in one form or other in human society. With the time and technological advancement in society, the methods and techniques adopted in committing crime have undergone an extraordinary change. With these changes, there is also an increase in the crime rate. DNA assessment has turned into a highly significant task; it has played an important role in the criminal justice system over recent years. DNA findings often help to determine the culprits in several cases where sufficient evidence was not present.Gathering DNA evidence is complex and it must meet certain legal standards. The criminal procedure has to standardize the collection and detection to improve the DNA evidence for court review procedures to play a better role in the court trials.
