ABSTRACT


Almost everyone who has spent any time online has encountered an online troll. The act of online trolling refers to a type of malicious online behavior which involves posting triggering or provocative comments with the intention of upsetting other users. In the era of the internet and social media, trolling is a hazard. Some individuals with nefarious motives frequently abuse social media networks, upsetting other innocent users. The central aim of this research is to elucidate the psychological effects of online trolling on its victims. Positioned within the broader context of social engineering, the study narrows down to what factors encourage Online trolling and how seemingly harmless internet trolling affects its victims in emotional, psychological and social setup. Drawing on various legislation which deal with the issue of Online trolling, this paper analyzes the challenges faced by authorities in making a cyberspace ‘troll free’ and how effective they are in providing in redress and protection. In an era where the internet and social media is bringing the world closer, this paper's findings are pivotal because it extensively deals with the psychological aspect and legal lacuna in context of Online trolling in a cyberspace.
