ABSTRACT


Uniform Civil Code (UCC) also known as ‘One Nation- One Law’ is a proposal in India and is stated under Article 44 of the Part IV in the Constitution of India. The purpose of the UCC is to replace the Personal Laws with a Uniform Law which will be applicable to all the citizens equally regardless of their religion, caste, sex, origin, etc.1. The purpose of this essay is to understand contemporary developments, events, judgements and committee recommendations which gave rise to the idea of UCC and the need for its implementation.
