However, this digital age has also seen a surge in instances of online defamation, posing significant challenges to individuals, businesses, and society as a whole. This research paper aims to provide a comprehensive analysis of online defamation in the context of India, examining its legal framework, societal implications, and emerging trends. It scrutinizes the intricacies of defamation within the digital realm, examining relevant statutes, landmark court cases, and emerging trends. By elucidating the complexities of online defamation laws, this paper aims to provide a nuanced understanding of the legal framework governing digital communication in India. It underscores the need for a balanced approach that upholds freedom of expression while safeguarding individuals' and businesses' reputational rights. Additionally, it proposes recommendations for policymakers, law enforcement agencies, and online platforms to effectively combat online defamation and foster a safer digital environment conducive to healthy discourse and mutual respect.
