ABSTRACT

This article will focus on the topic, ‘Understanding Genocide and its Impact on Human Rights Law.’ As the title of the topic clearly states, the aim of this paper is to understand the term, ‘Genocide’ and how it impacts the national as well as the international human rights laws respectively. To help us better understand we will focus on two questions, first, we will look at two real life cases of genocide (the Khmer Rouge genocide and the Rwandan genocide) and how both the genocides which led to grave human rights violations impacted the field of human rights law. And secondly, how does the international arena address the issue of genocide, whether they are on the right track or needs improvement so as to avoid such cases in the future. Finally, we will conclude the paper by taking a sneak peek into how the Indian law addresses genocide.
