Meaning of Tort

Torts is a legal term that refers to a civil wrong. As we all know, tort law in India is not codified. Tort law has its origins in England. Tort law refers to a civil wrong in which a person suffers a monetary and physical loss. The fact that the tort is necessarily a civil wrong is irrelevant; it can also be a criminal wrong such as battery, assault, or defamation. In tort law, the claimant must incur losses as a result of the other party's actions (the act must be tortious, which implies wrongful). Both civil and criminal charges apply to battery and assault. Tort law, often known as English law, is a civil jurisdiction law. This statute is mostly concerned with civil matters, such as minor infractions.
