ABSTRACT
This study investigates the role of specific contracts in the ever-changing gig economy, aiming to tackle the challenges its participants face. The gig economy, unlike traditional economies, owes its emergence to advancing technology and global connectivity, which enable remote work across borders.
Characterised by temporary and part-time positions filled by independent contractors and freelancers, the gig economy offers flexibility and autonomy. However, it lacks certain benefits and securities inherent in traditional employment structures.
Stakeholders across the board—workers, employers, and service recipients—encounter challenges due to the sector's newness and lack of robust regulations. To fortify the gig economy's foundation and mitigate these challenges, the inclusion of specific contracts is proposed.
These contracts, outlined under the Indian Contract Act from Section 124 onwards, specify the rights and responsibilities of involved parties, providing a firm basis for agreements and safeguarding interests.
This research aims to apply such specific contracts to strengthen the gig economy's resilience and instil confidence and security among its stakeholders.
