The digital era, characterized by the rapid dissemination of information, has introduced unprecedented challenges, including the pervasive spread of online misinformation and fake news. These phenomena, whether arising from unintentional sharing of inaccurate news or deliberate attempts to mislead, have far-reaching implications, such as eroding public trust, inciting societal unrest, and destabilizing political systems. This article delves into the critical role of cyber law and technology in addressing these challenges.
Cyber laws, such as the European Union's Digital Services Act, 2022 and India's IT Act, 2000, establish legal frameworks to regulate online activities, ensure accountability of digital platforms, and safeguard users against misinformation. Simultaneously, technological advancements, including Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain Technology, and Automated fact- checking tools, offer robust solutions for detecting, moderating, and mitigating false narratives.
The article highlights global legislative measures and examines their effectiveness in combating digital misinformation. Additionally, it also explores the integration of AI-driven tools, Natural Language Processing, and Blockchain Technology in curbing the proliferation of fake news.
This article underscores the importance of synergy between legal frameworks and technological solutions. By fostering international collaboration, promoting digital literacy, and leveraging innovative technologies, society can strive towards a transparent and trustworthy digital ecosystem that prioritizes accountability and the dissemination of reliable information.
