Krithika Rajasekaran, Dr Ambedkar Law University, School of Excellence in Law (SOEL)

ABSTRACT

This article explores the multifaceted responsibilities of civil services, including policy implementation, regulatory oversight, revenue collection, and social welfare management, all of which have a direct impact on the Indian economy. From driving economic reforms during liberalization to overseeing infrastructure development and managing public sector enterprises, civil servants are central to the country's growth. However, challenges such as bureaucratic delays, political interference, and lack of innovation hinder their effectiveness. The article further analyzes how civil services contribute to poverty alleviation, industrial growth, and crisis management, while highlighting the need for administrative reforms, technological upgrades, and skill development to enhance their efficiency.
