Ramachandhiran R, School of Excellence in Law

ABSTRACT:

The Right to Information (RTI) has emerged as a powerful tool for promoting transparency, accountability, and effective governance. By granting citizens the right to access public information, RTI empowers them to hold public institutions accountable for their actions, fostering a more responsive and equitable democratic system. This paper explores the critical role of RTI in strengthening transparency and accountability, combating corruption, and enhancing citizen participation in governance. It will delve into the key principles and provisions of RTI legislation, examining its impact on various aspects of public life, including public procurement, decision-making, and the delivery of public services. Ultimately, the paper will argue that RTI is indispensable for achieving good governance and building a more just and equitable society.
