The Repercussion Of “Evergiven”: The Inferences Of Marine Accidents And The English Doctrine Of General Average For Calculation Of Losses

ABSTRACT
It was indeed a shock for the entire international trade community on the dreadful day of 23rd march 2021 when an enormous load carrying ship “ Ever given was stuck from bow to stern on the busiest ship trade route in the world, ‘The Suez Canal. As one of the world's busiest trade routes, the canal obstruction had a significant negative impact on trade between Europe and Asia and the Middle East. On 28 March, at least 369 ships were queuing to pass through the canal. This prevented an estimated US$9.6 billion worth of trade.1 In this paper the researcher shall try to discuss in detail the implications of such level of marine disasters and the usage of the doctrine of general average and its impact on the calculations of the faults and monetary value in marine accidents. The focus of the research paper shall be on the processes and hoops those marine accidents have to jump through before any final assessments takes place such as There are a lot of hoops to jump through when such a marine incident takes place like: 1. The fault games 2. The assessment of damage and compensation 3. The contribution factor
