ABSTRACT
The most serious issue that women face nowadays is violence against them. There are two types of violence: public violence, which is punishable under sections 354, 509, and 376 of the Indian Penal Code, and domestic violence, which is penalized under sections 304-B, 306, and 498A of the IPC. Women have been victims of abuse and exploitation in a male-dominated culture. Women in India have been exploited socially, economically, physically, psychologically, and sexually. Domestic abuse is common in India, yet it is usually unnoticed. There are several losses related to various areas of the problem of women, such as dowry demand, sexual assault and female foeticide, trafficking, and sexual harassment, but domestic violence is the most susceptible area. To millions of women who are victims of domestic violence, the concept of sex equality, women's empowerment, and other constitutional provisions are myths. Domestic abuse is common in India, yet it is largely hidden in the public eye. Normally, laws against cruelty, assault, and other forms of violence against women were insufficient to address violence against women in intimate relationships.
