The Position Of Aged Transgender In India – Sociological And Legal Perspectives

S. Ragupathi & Banupriya G

ABSTRACT

The author exposes that the “Transgender” is not the recent lexical invention rather it is the very late discovery of this society. Being a transgender is not a men turning in to women and adopting the life style of women. It is a separate unique gender of this nature. Neutrality is always praised by this world but unfortunately neutrality in gender is unnoticed and understanding of the subject matter itself is ignored. Throughout the world, transgender are exploited, humiliated and mortified by the society. In India we can see transgender gods in the name of Arthanarishvara, Mohini, Bahucharan mata etc… but nowhere we can find a transgender placed in Indian administrative service, Indian Police Service or even as Village administrative officers. In India transgender are ironically believed to be sex workers and lonely beast of burden, we can find the first transgender police officer in Tamilnadu but still the exploitations against the transgender is vast reported in the same region. Being a transgender one can survive with the help of her youngness as considered by this society but as the youngness fades then it’s an unrevealed mystery about their survival. In this paper I have discussed in detail about the suppressions against the aged transgender and the failure of the legislature to establish laws for them and the negligence of government pertaining to this issue.
