Ms. Upasana Borah & Dr. Chandamita Das

ABSTRACT

The welfare and security of animals, particularly dogs, cats, and other companion animals, are of paramount importance in any civilized society. However, existing animal rights acts often fail to comprehensively address the unique needs and vulnerabilities of these animals. This research paper explores the need for amending animal rights legislation to ensure the security and well-being of dogs, cats, and other companion animals, while highlighting key areas that require attention. It also examines the implications of the Livestock Bill 20233 on the livestock industry and animal welfare. By examining case studies, current gaps in the legal framework, and proposed amendments, this article aims to contribute to the ongoing discourse surrounding animal rights and encourage legislative reform to better protect these beloved creatures. The Livestock Bill 2023 represents a critical juncture in the livestock industry, where the welfare of animals and the sector’s sustainable development must be carefully balanced. By analyzing key provisions, potential challenges, and recommended amendments, this article aims to shed light on the importance of enhancing animal rights legislation for the well-being of dogs, cats, and other companion animals, while also considering the broader implications for the livestock industry's future.
