The Impact Of Social Media On Freedom Of Speech

Bhumika Vij & Riyansh Saxena, BA LLB, Amity University, Rajasthan

ABSTRACT

The research paper concludes by emphasizing the importance of good thinking, open discussion and information gathering in the context of the media's influence on the interpretation of law. It calls for a balanced approach that draws on the media's positive effects, addresses its challenges, and ultimately ensures that the virtues of freedom of expression and the rule of law are preserved in the digital age. Instead, the negative impact comes from the proliferation of misinformation, the simplification of legal issues, and the creation of echo chambers that reinforce existing injustices. The absence of legal terms in social media discussions often leads to misunderstanding and misinterpretation of the rules. Additionally, the potential for online harassment and intimidation can inhibit freedom of expression by encouraging individuals to publish their comments. Its positive impact is characterized by freedom of legal information, which provides citizens with access, participation and a platform to discuss rights. Legal experts, academics, and organizations use social media to disseminate information and thereby increase awareness about law and education. Additionally, social media acts as a catalyst for public participation and can encourage people to advocate for changes in laws and legal interpretations.
