ABSTRACT

In the past, human rights had been conceptualized in a way that did not take account of women’s lives and the fact that they experienced violence, crime, discrimination and coercion. Women in the past, especially in the male- dominated society, adhered to certain norms and traditions that placed severe restrictions on them. The efforts of advocates, human rights organisations, and governments have been crucial in ensuring that the human rights framework has evolved and been modified to better protect women by summarising the gender-specific features of human rights breaches. It takes a comprehensive understanding of the fundamental societal structures and power dynamics that define and promote women's capacity to exercise their human rights in order to effectively protect those rights for women. All facets of life, including law and politics, economic and social policy, family and community life, education, training, skill development, and obtaining work possibilities are impacted by these power structures.
