ABSTRACT

The streaming industry has become a prominent player in the global entertainment sector and is fundamentally changing the way entertainment content is consumed. But with this rapid growth is a complex set of legal issues stemming from copyright law. This study considers how copyright law shapes the streaming industry and focuses on content ownership, licensing, and distribution By examining recent case laws and international regulations, the study reveals differences in legal frameworks across business and legal jurisdictions, noting barriers to streaming content for content creators, consumers, as well as platforms that provide access through a subscription service. The balance of interest between strong protection for content as intellectual property and open access to content is deeply considered in the context of the current global digital landscape.

A comparative global view will demonstrate that copyright protections/enforcement varies by jurisdiction, which more often than not builds barriers to effective operations in the streaming industry. Additionally, the study seeks to propose legal reforms and new solutions that are able to balance the protection of intellectual property while considering access to content in the modern age. It examines technology-based solutions like block chain and digital rights management, and their use to address piracy while maintaining content ownership. It also incorporates information about fair use principles to evaluate their relevance and application in the industry. This research hopes to provide a well-rounded understanding of copyright law and its role in the streaming industry, while initiating discussion of how to balance the interests of stakeholders. The research tackles challenges in industry and proposes a legal and technical solutions that contribute to the development of a fair and viable framework for a global entertainment system.
