ABSTRACT

The emergence of machines that can reduce the need for human labor by 90% raises significant legal, ethical, and safety issues. From a legal perspective, this innovation necessitates changes to existing labor laws, intellectual property rights, and regulatory frameworks. The potential displacement of workers is a serious concern that demands robust unemployment policies, social security measures, and opportunities for reskilling. While this innovation can enhance efficiency and reduce operating costs, it also has the potential to exacerbate income inequality, especially if not governed fairly. This innovation can be seen as a double- edged sword. On one hand, reducing labor can decrease resource consumption and environmental impact, aligning with sustainable development goals. On the other hand, social sustainability, including access to justice and stable employment, will be negatively affected. Sustainable development encompasses not only environmental sustainability but also social and economic stability. A drastic reduction in the workforce could disrupt the social fabric, leading to long-term economic and social difficulties. Policymakers, businesses, and society must collaborate to ensure that the benefits of technological progress are not achieved at the expense of human dignity and rights. The focus should be on integrating technology into the workforce to enhance overall well-being, rather than simply replacing human labor. Additionally, this article will delve into the wider social ramifications, such as the potential disruption of communities, mental health concerns, and impacts on social cohesion, with a special emphasis on developing nations. By exploring these topics through a multifaceted lens— covering legal, ethical, economic, and social dimensions—this study seeks to determine if the broad adoption of such technology truly supports sustainable development. The primary objective is to identify strategies that ensure this innovation can be integrated into society in a manner that enhances overall well-being while carefully managing any associated risks.
