ABSTRACT

A paradigm shift in the dynamics of criminal activities has been brought about by the pervasive impact of social media platforms on human conduct. In order to shed light on the ways in which these platforms have influenced the development of crime, this study intends to explore and analyze the complex relationship between social media usage patterns and the manifestation of criminal behaviors. The research problem is to understand how social media platforms work as catalysts, accelerants, and amplifiers of criminal activities. Primarily the study aims to identify the psychological, sociological, and technological underpinnings that link social media to criminal behavior by investigating the mechanisms through which it shapes perceptions and promotes the spread of criminal ideologies. The study goes into more detail about many aspects of this complex relationship, such as how social media platforms affect people's perceptions of crime, how they affect how they make decisions, and how they help spread criminal ideology. It also looks at the area of cybercrime made possible by social media and the difficulties faced by law enforcement organizations in keeping track of and reducing these crimes of the digital age. Along with possible preventive actions and public awareness efforts, ethical and legal issues surrounding the use of social media in criminal activity are examined. While refraining from performing new analysis, the paper evaluates the caliber and applicability of previous research, detects trends and consistency, and identifies gaps in the literature.
