ABSTRACT
Telemedicine is a term that is used to describe any healthcare services that is provided using information and communication technology, numerous tools and services to prevent, treat and monitor disease patterns. It encompasses all virtual patient care. Though telemedicine technology offers a variety of benefits it is vulnerable to cyber threats. The availability and exchange of patient’s data with other devices may introduce security vulnerabilities. The healthcare organisations are increasingly relying on telehealth and Remote Patient Monitoring to treat patients at home as it is convenient and cost effective. However, while providing telemedicine services via internet “Personal health information” is at high risk both at doctor’s end and the patients if sensitive data are hacked and exposed.
This type of information is highly confidential so it has to be kept private. If it gets leaked then it amounts to both the legal and ethical violations resulting in the data breach. Any person, company or websites may collect certain data jeopardizing the safety of the patients. This paper delves into the cybersecurity vulnerabilities within telemedicine systems, such as data breaches, unauthorized access, and privacy infringements and highlighting the importance of safeguarding data confidentiality, integrity and overall security of telehealth services. At present in India there isn’t any particular law regulating telemedicine, only guidelines are available. Telemedicine platforms can provide secure and reliable healthcare services, thereby enhancing patient outcomes and satisfaction, by putting in place thorough cybersecurity measures and by complying with relevant regulations.
