ABSTRACT

India is considered to be the largest democracy in the world, with more than 1.4 billion of population. But how far and to what extent this democracy is a success? Or has the very essence of it been jeopardized due to the rising cases of human rights violations, especially of subaltern and disadvantaged people, who often face barriers to express their opinions and grievances? The unjust and prejudicial treatment meted out to these people, due to the lack of stringent implementation of laws is one of the many evils that's deeply embedded in our society and poses a great threat to the principles mentioned in our constitution. Anything that violates our basic fundamental rights should be eradicated to ensure a rational temperament and positive growth across the nation. This article aims at throwing light upon those people, who're overlooked and subjugated, and also it attempts to make an extensive study of their historical background, and the incidents of the human rights violations that they undergo every day. And, in the end, this paper strives to draw an outline of the probable roadmap to ameliorate the condition of the subalterns and the disadvantaged people.

Keywords: Democracy, human rights, subalterns, prejudicial, subjugated, ameliorate, India.
