ABSTRACT
Waste management is the control of waste, beginning with planning, collection techniques, and disposal locations. The goal of waste management is to lessen the negative consequences that trash has on the environment and human health. A city must have effective waste management to be considered developed. Although the governing bodies are in charge, the citizens of the district play an important role in keeping the city clean.
The purpose of this research paper is to analyze the current waste management system in Varanasi by gathering information from locals and learning about their perspectives on the subject. The examination of various waste types, their methods of collection, the degree of public satisfaction with cleanliness programs, and services offered by the government are all included in the article. Further, it includes laws that govern waste management, policies, and initiatives by the government such as the Clean Ganga program and their implications, the MoU signed, the drainage system, and health hazards in the event of non-improvement of the waste management system in the city. Moreover, secondary data from Nagar Nigam Varanasi's 2019 Solid Waste Management Action Plan has been utilized. Attempts have been made to provide the finest strategies and action measures that should be taken to make the city cleaner.
