ABSTRACT
Adolescent childbearing poses a significant social and legal problem for any society, and even more so, for complex societies like India. This paper attempts to address these concerns by analysing the factors that predispose teenage pregnancies, the impact of such pregnancies on the society, and the existing regulatory frameworks on teenage pregnancies. In view of the above considerations, it is apparent that the problem requires in all its dimensions and that all – individual, institutional, governmental, and legal, means must be employed. It attempts to analyse such issues as cultural factors, access to health care and the law itself that promote such a state, and offers options to reduce the consequences and improve the situation of at-risk teenagers.
