Soumodip Kar, B.A.LL.B. (Hons), S. K. Acharya Institute of Law, Kalyani, West Bengal.

Introduction:

''The change is the only constant.''

This famous quotation is given by a Greek philosopher Heraclitus which is completely true from every side and perspective. For example we all have seen that the entire legal system is growing and changing day by day as per the circumstances of the society. Criminal laws are present to help the society to grow in a peaceful manner by trying to eliminate as much criminal activity as possible. Indian criminal laws are divided into three major acts i.e. Indian Penal Code, 1860, Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973, and Indian Evidence Act, 1872.

The Code of Criminal Procedure provides the provisions for the procedure that is to be followed in the pursuance of a case. In this article, one of the main processes, which is trial of a case before a session court, will be discussed.
