ABSTRACT

In India, the police play a significant part in the criminal justice system. The primary goals of the police are to assist the victim right away, to take preventative measures, to apprehend the accused, to fairly investigate the crime, to enforce and preserve law and order conditions. We hardly expect to have fair justice without the police investigation, which is the foundation of the criminal justice system. As a crucial component of a law enforcement agency, the police are accountable to the public and society at large for four fundamental duties: upholding the law, prevent crimes, handling emergencies, and offering support services. However, it is crucial for the police to investigate crimes equitably in relation to the criminal justice system. In India, the police are more accountable for taking action, preventing crimes, and conductingimpartial investigations in order to bring justice to the victims of horrible crimes like rape. Theinvestigation is the cornerstone of the fair and accurate justice that is delivered following the criminal justice system's process, even though the Police, Court, and Correction Home or Jail is its three main constituents. However, the compatriots of the accused have raised several concerns regarding the Police authority's investigation, leading them to call for an impartial investigating agency in order to ensure fair justice.

This critical study makes an assumption and offers some suggestions for improving one understands of the nuances of police investigation, gives a brief about the powers of police and throws light on the importance of police report.
