Role Of Artificial Intelligence In Police Investigation And Criminal Justice System

ABSTRACT

Today’s world is experiencing rapid developments and is witness to technical phenomena taking place around the globe due to evolution of information technology and specifically- Artificial Intelligence. AI advocates the concept of having machines and technology that works in equilibrium with human conscience without any active human intervention, for example decision making, visual perception, multilingual translation, speech recognition et cetera. The area of criminal justice and police investigation is not untouched with artificial intelligence and with all dawn new developments are taking place in respect of the role of artificial intelligence in criminal justice and police investigation. As criminals and crime syndicates on domestic as well as international levels have adopted their activities in collaboration with technology, law enforcement agencies have developed many systems to tackle them. This paper focuses on finding out how artificial intelligence is used in this arena and the future that is filled with possibilities ahead in respect of artificial intelligence. The study focuses on the role of artificial intelligence in police investigation and criminal legal system systems and the scope of reforms or developments that are required in it as well as the need to mold the judicial officers into a specialist so that they can be able to use this technology.
