ABSTRACT
‘Psycho Pass’ is a Japanese Television series based on a series of short stories by Japanese manga author Gen Urobochi, which gives a glimpse into the possible, widely hypothesized, cyberpunk future of the human race. The story takes place between the years 2113-2121, set in Japan, specifically in the city of Tokyo. The story primarily focuses on how the country of Japan has retained peace, stability, and development, through the policy of isolation, self-production, and automation. This is spearheaded by an all-powerful AI, Sybil. Sybil serves many purposes in society, yet its primary function is being the almighty judge. Sybil judges people by reading their minds to calculate their criminal coefficient or likeliness of that person committing a crime. This is measured as the person’s Psycho-Pass. Sybil is assisted by a government body called MWPSB, which acts as the eyes and ears of Sybil. Psycho-Pass primarily deals with a universal dilemma- ‘What is justice? What is morality? Can good or bad be quantified and defined by any entity in this universe? Is a perfect, crime-free society plausible? Can justice be flawlessly provided?’.
This research paper primarily focuses on how AI is a seemingly evident future of humankind, and how it will change the fundamental pillars of society, and how it will change the judiciary, executive, and legislature of a country, while also taking into account economic and social repercussions of such a shift, especially among the masses, and if an AI can really uphold justice or specifically natural justice. The researcher will rely primarily on the lore of Psycho-Pass while creating parallels with current society.
