ABSTRACT

"Rights of Women and Importance of 498A of India Penal Code" examines the vital role that women play in society as well as the historical and current obstacles that they encounter, especially in India. It draws attention to the importance of Section 498A of the Indian Penal Code, which was passed in 1983 and was designed to shield married women from abuse and harassment by their husbands and in-laws, especially when it comes to violence involving dowries. The study highlights the necessity for legal protections while charting the situation of women in India from ancient times through the British era to post-independence, highlighting the widespread gender discrimination and inequality that they confront. aggression. The study also examines other important legislation that have been passed to protect women's rights in India and comes to the conclusion that, in spite of legal improvements, societal attitudes and behaviours still threaten women's rights, calling for constant reform and activism”.
