Right To Internet - A Fundamental Right?

Gunjan Bhati, Manipal University, Jaipur

Introduction

According to the Oxford dictionary, the Internet is defined as a global computer network providing a variety of information and communication facilities, consisting of interconnected networks using standardized communication protocols. But for a commoner, it is a whole other world in a single click. Internet nowadays is more of an obligation to live a healthy social life. It is difficult to avoid the use of internet as it is no more just a platform where you can socialize but also a means of business, a source of information personalized towards a single user, and now especially after the times of covid-19 an important tool for education. From Opening a Google map to reach your destination to making an instant payment, it could be about booking a cab to applying for a job. It seems like a necessity for day-to-day basic tasks. Prohibiting one from not being able to access it will be a big hindrance for not only their business or profession but also the day-to-day tasks, not forgetting the economic loss faced by the public.
