Moumita Nandi, University of Engineering & Management, Kolkata

ABSTRACT

The Northeastern region comprises eight states and is considered the gateway of Southeast Asia. It is one of the most diverse regions of Asia with each state boosting its traditions and culture, in addition to being a significant biographic zone with an abundance of natural resources, this area is distingue by a high amount of ecological vulnerability. However, there are drawbacks to the positive aspects as well, the northeastern regions are highly suffering from growing population pressure and the extractive nature of development. High unemployment and lack of education rates are widespread in the Northeastern states because of inadequate skill development. This paper explores the critical issues and the challenges encountered by homegrown children of the Northeastern states like Tripura and Meghalaya during their formative years and is also based on the role of NITI Aayog which performs for the development and the welfare of India and The National Health Family Survey (NFHS) which is one of the largest surveys of the world and plays a critical part in observing the expansion of the Indian Health Industry. Lack of education, malnutrition, sexual abuse, trafficking, child labor, child marriage, teenage pregnancies, child mortality, and other harmful practices are some major issues faced by the children of the Northeastern region. Child abuse, adolescent sexual assault, and child marriage increase the risk of a girl becoming pregnant, often accidentally. Unwanted pregnancies are more likely to occur when adolescents are sexually abused which affects individuals and society, making it a global public health concern. This study aims to highlight the problems the kids currently face and need to solve to lead tranquil lives.
