Introduction
“Public trust is the only legitimate source of power for the judicial system and it is very important for us to ensure that people must remain invested in us. A strong, independent judiciary is essential for rule of law”. These are words of former chief justice of India S.A. Bobde,1 emphasising the role of trust in the case of the Indian Legal System. One of the main constituents of the legal system is the judiciary and it survives on the trust of people. Anarchy or the rule of the powerful will be the consequence if the judicial system of a country losses public trust. Abraham Lincoln said that people’s opinion in a democratic country is everything. Similarly, a legal system, even if manned by powerful people and in fact manned by powerful people, would crumble or lose its significance if people do not have faith in it. Public opinion, people’s trust is the core on which the foundation of a vibrant legal system rests.
