Origin And Evolution Of Modern Police System In India

Komal Bhati, LLM, Galgotias University

INTRODUCTION

The state's principal responsibility is to ensure society's safety. Internal or external threats to society exist, and it is the state's responsibility to safeguard the society in both cases. For this reason, the state has developed distinct police forces for the appropriate sectors. The police force is an important aspect of society. A good police system is required to sustain society's peace and order. Because the police are part of India's criminal justice system, they must play a vital role in maintaining peace and enforcing law and order within their jurisdiction. Its major responsibility is to defend people's lives and property from acts of violence, intimidation, oppression, and disruption. The police, in essence, are a constituted group of people authorized by the state to enforce the law, protect people and property, and prevent crime and civil disorder.
