One Nation One Election

ABSTRACT:


The purpose of this paper is to give a brief concept of the recent political topic which was put by the current central government ‘One Nation One Election’. This paper aim to show the historical, political and legal perspective of the ‘One Nation One Election’.


Introduction:


The concept of ‘One Nation One Election’ was brought for the synchronization of the both Lok- Sabha and State assembly elections. As in India where election period held every 5 years in the state or for the position of the central, it will be easy for the citizen if the concept of ‘One Nation One Election’ rule is applied in the territory of the India. First it will save a huge time of the election commission for the campaign of different political party’s rally, and second it will help to save a huge amount for the campaign.


Historical Background:


This is not the first time when a government trying to introduce this system of ‘One Nation One Election’ concept in India. After the year 1951, simultaneous elections have been conducted for the Lok Sabha and state Assembly elections in 1952, 1957, 1962, &1967. This practice was discontinued in 1968-1969 because some legislative assembly were dissolved earlier due to various reasons. The concept of one nation and one election was first came during the ruling government of congress. But even on that time the majority didn’t support the idea as few members think that it will lead to dictatorship and will end the competition with other political parties in the center election.
