ABSTRACT


This article explores the significant changes in India's criminal justice system brought by the new criminal laws, including the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 20231, which replaces the Indian Penal Code, 1860. It delves into how these changes address the challenges of heinous crimes, emphasizing justice, modernization, and protection of vulnerable groups. The discussion highlights the positive shifts in legal frameworks, such as the redefinition of offenses, introduction of new categories of crimes, and more stringent sentencing guidelines. Additionally, the article examines procedural reforms aimed at enhancing transparency, reducing delays, and improving victim protection. The overarching aim of these reforms is to create a more effective and equitable criminal justice system that is better aligned with contemporary societal needs and values.
