ABSTRACT
In the flourishing domain of autonomous vehicle regulation, this research undertakes a comprehensive examination of the intricacies inherent in the Indian legal framework, specifically delineating the Motor Vehicles Act of 1988. It analyses the existing regulations and highlights the jurisprudential gaps that affect the governance and acknowledgement of autonomous vehicles, with a particular emphasis on the regulatory environment in India. This essay clarifies the complexities underlying Indian laws, identifying ambiguities around the requirements for operating autonomous vehicles, licensing requirements, safety procedures, and liability definitions. Additionally, this analysis delves deeply into the regulatory uncertainties surrounding autonomous vehicles, using the legal complexity as a magnifying glass to unravel the complex regulatory landscape around autonomous vehicles in India.
In the midst of regulatory ambiguities, research attempts to uncover the opportunities and benefits brought about by the entrance of autonomous vehicles into the Indian domain. It carefully identifies possible advantages such as increased mobility accessibility, reduced traffic accidents, and improved transportation efficiency. In addition, the study expands its scope to include the United States in an effort to be as thorough as possible by conducting a comparative examination of regulatory paradigms. This comparative analysis reveals the differences and similarities between the regulatory frameworks in the United States and India, elucidating differences in safety precautions, licensing requirements, and liability allocation.
