ABSTRACT

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) was established on October 18, 2010 under the National Green Tribunal Act 2010, to efficiently and effectively handle cases involving environmental protection, the conservation of forests, and other natural resources. This includes the enforcement of any environmental legal rights and the provision of relief and compensation for environmental damages to people and property, and matters related to or incidental to these cases. It is an expert body with the knowledge needed to handle environmental disputes involving many disciplinary issues. The Code of Civil Procedure, 1908 does not bind the Tribunal; instead, Tribunal will follow the principles of natural justice. Due to the Tribunal's exclusive jurisdiction over environmental issues, swift environmental justice will be provided, which will ease the burden of litigation on the higher courts. The Tribunal must make every effort to resolve petitions or appeals in a definitive manner within six months after filing. This paper deals with NGT, it constitution, composition and significance along with few cases.
