ABSTRACT


The project talks about sociological and legal acceptance of live-in relationships in India. It also analyses Judicial trends of live in relationships. The article deals with the socio-legal Dimensions of Live-In relationship in India. in the instant past Live-In Relationship has been one of the most controversial legal topic. The aspects of Live-in relationship was not very clear In India until the Hon’ble Supreme Court gave its landmark judgment in1 the Supreme Court of India made a landmark judgment in the case of D. Velusamy vs. D. Patchaiammal, where it recognized that a long-term live-in relationship could be considered a valid marriage under certain circumstances. About 'relationship in nature of marriage' under Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005. The whole notion of live in relationship is not as simple as it appears, but is multi-dimensional bringing along with it many issues and complications.


In all religion whether in the Hindu, Muslim and Christian worlds, marriage began as a sacrament. It is faith that Marriage began as a sacrament implied a permanent and indissoluble union. It was a union not merely in this life but also after death in all lives to come in eternal union. This faith about the marriage and The sanctity of marriage is still deeply guarded by the people of society but that is not like that people don't adopt alternative forms of living arrangements. A live in relationships is now adopted by the youth generation. A live in relationship is just such an alternative arrangement which is gathering attention and acceptance today.
