Ritul Aryan, LLM, (Criminal Law), Chanakya National Law University, Patna

ABSTRACT

Women who is a girl, a daughter, a wife, a mother, a grandmother is the key of a family in its entirety. World won’t be a complete world without women. Unfortunately, since the very beginning of this world women have always been treated to be a weaker segment of the society and time and again, they have been the victims of heinous crimes like rape, eve teasing, female infanticide, dowry, child marriage, domestic violence, acid throwing, etc. They have always been forced to live according to the wishes of their husbands, brothers and fathers i.e., the male members of their families. Laws have also been made in order to secure women from violence against them by their family, friends and the society in general, and to provide them with their right, they are the owners of which. This paper covers the aspect of women from past times to the present time and shows how the law of our country has contributed to the best of its potential to change the lives of women and to provide them a dignified and respectful life and not that of a slave. It was said by Oprah Winfrey, “the most important journey of women’s life doesn’t necessarily involve the climbing of the highest peak or trekking around the world. The biggest adventure ever taken by women is to live the life of her own dreams.”
