Sonam Singh, Research Scholar, Galgotias University, School of Law

ABSTRACT

The present paper evaluates the position of legal aid services in India. With the introduction of free legal services to the citizens, the regime of legal aid has grown over time. Presently, it is considered a fundamental right of the citizens. However, there are certain modern-day problems attached to these services which are blocking the rightful applicability of laws. The researcher has highlighted the broad overview of the concept with numerous problems attached to free legal aid in India. The present concept is governed under the legal service Act, 1987 wherein the eligibility, types of services, etc are elaborated. The researcher also analyzed whether the purpose of the act which is “justice for all” is precisely served or not. The research also includes comprehensive suggestions and revamps required to make the free legal aid service system more reliable and operative.
