ABSTRACT
In this way, the continuation of international environmental protection treaties that build bases of international cooperation are crucial in handling the world’s environmental issues. This paper also discusses the following environmental conventions and their aims: climate change, biological diversity, environmental pollution, and sustainable development. Some of these are the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), the Paris Agreement and United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). It was established in 1992 and it sets the stage for climate change negotiations; it assembles countries to address impacts of emission of greenhouse gases. One of the substantive actions was taken in 2015 when the UNFCCC made Paris Agreement that set a limit of the average increase in the temperature at well below 2 °C above pre- industrial levels while pursuing the limit at 1.5 °C above the same level. In the same regard, the CBD, which was signed in 1992 aimed at ensuring that the utilization of the natural resource was sustainable as well as the conservation of the biological diversity. Due to the concern of crossovers with countries across the globe, international cooperation as captured by these treaties becomes essential in the management of the environment. They know fully well that since this involves conservation of the environment which has implication on livelihoods, people’s health and future generation it is not only an ecological issue but an economical one as well.
