Law On Cheating In Competitive Exams In India

Richa Soni, PhD Research Scholar, NLIU, Bhopal

ABSTRACT

The Indian education system is known for its competitive selection process, with entrance exams serving as the gateway to prestigious colleges and universities. The market is complex, involving government bodies, coaching institutions, and online platforms. Challenges include fragmentation, high costs, and concerns about transparency. The Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024, aims to curb cheating in competitive exams, but question paper leaks have disrupted the hiring process for government jobs. The development of technology in exam administration has led to novel methods of cheating, such as screen sharing and remote assistance. A comprehensive central legislation is needed to ensure transparency, fairness, and credibility in public examination systems.
