Law Of Sedition - A Comparative Study

ABSTRACT

Independent India inherited many laws from their predecessor, including the controversial law of sedition, which has judicially evolved over a period of time. The Constitution of India, under its Article 19(1)(a) of the Indian Constitution provides the right to freedom of speech and expression to Indian citizens while Section 124A of the Indian Penal Code, 1860 imposes a restriction on the 'right to freedom of speech and expression' of the people Firstly, this paper throws light on the origin and aim of sedition law in India. After that, this paper describes whether sedition law acts in really. Thereafter, this paper describes a comparative study of sedition law in India and in other countries.
