Navish C, Tamilnadu Dr. Amedkar Law University School of Excellence in Law

ABSTRACT

Land is one of the four factors of production. Essentially, development without land is unimaginable. One element which is also very critical for the development of the country is road connectivity. The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) is the body responsible for such connectivity through the construction of national highways in the country. The paper examines existing legal frameworks for land acquisition. Along with the recent developments made by the Government to ease the process. Land acquisition is one of the preliminary and substantive problems of any NHAI project. To have a nuanced understanding of the depth and extent of problems associated with delayed land acquisition, the paper discusses a few projects with land acquisition as a significant problem. Lastly, the paper recommends feasible solutions that can be adapted to efficiently reduce the time of land acquisition. Reducing the time of land acquisition is important as it can delay the completion of the construction and thus impact the cost of the project and cause great inconvenience to people.
