Is India Ready To Abolish The Death Penalty?

ABSTRACT

Since 1947, execution of 720 prisoners has taken place in India. ‘Nathuram Godse’ and ‘Narain D Apte’ were the ones who assassinated Mahatma Gandhi, who were the first one to be hanged to death in Independent India. On November 15, 1949 in Haryana’s Ambala Central Jail, these two were hanged to death. A pronounced guilty offender in the 1993 Mumbai attack of bombings is Yakub Abdul Razak Memon. His execution is the latest execution in India which was in the year, 2015, 30th July.
