ABSTRACT
The essay rigorously examines the compelling question: “Is committing a crime an indicator of moral deficiency?” Delving into the intricate interplay between morality and criminal behaviour, this study explores the direct and indirect links that underpin the complex relationship. The research investigates the roles of self-control, biological and emotional factors, gender, and parenting in the causation of crime and scrutinises the extent to which moral development affects juvenile delinquency. Additionally, it delves into the theoretical frameworks of self-control and the Situational Action Theory of crime causation, highlighting their contributions to understanding the nexus of morality and criminality. By analysing the impact of biological, emotional, and socialisation factors, this study reveals the multifaceted nature of the moral filter that guides individual actions in the context of criminal behaviour. Ultimately, this essay strives to contribute valuable insights into the question of whether committing a crime is indeed a sign of a lack of morality.
