Investigative Journalism And Right To Fair Trial: Contours And Concerns

Subash G. Plathottam, Research Scholar, CMR University School of Legal Studies, Bangalore.

ABSTRACT

Investigative journalism involves locating, documenting, and disseminating information others strive to conceal. Investigative journalism is required because the public has a right to know about abuse, corruption, and criminal activity in all spheres of public life. The media's use of investigative reporting has received a lot of attention. If left uncontrolled, it may be susceptible to misuse of the freedoms granted or invasion of privacy. At this point, the question of whether personal privacy is jeopardised in order to allow the media to exercise its fundamental right to speech and expression arises. This paper is a small effort to analyse the scope and limits of Investigative journalism and its impact on fair trials.

Keywords: Investigative journalism, media trial, fair trial
