ABSTRACT

This research paper examines the relationship between intellectual property rights (IPRs) and folk music in India. It delves into the challenges and opportunities in protecting and promoting folk music while respecting the rights of creators and communities. The study explores the legal framework surrounding folk music and IPRs in India, analyses the cultural significance of folk music, and discusses the potential impact of IPRs on its preservation, dissemination, and commercialization. Furthermore, the paper proposes strategies for striking a balance between IPRs and the preservation of India's rich folk music heritage. This research paper highlights the complex relationship between intellectual property rights and folk music in India. It emphasizes the need to preserve and protect India's rich folk music heritage while respecting the rights of creators and communities. By adopting a balanced approach that takes into account cultural preservation, commercialization, and community engagement, India can safeguard its folk music traditions, encourage innovation, and promote the sustainable development of its cultural heritage.
