Intellectual Property Rights And Indian Premier League

Arpit Singhal, LLB, Symbiosis Law School, Pune

INTRODUCTION

From the primitive past to the glorious days of Caesar, the sports industry has always been a significant sector around the world, bringing together entertainment, games, culture, and monetary commerce. Cricket, a leisure game for gentlemen for decades, has grown into a considerably more complex international event backed by massive capital, investments, and revenues.

Athletes are both players and endorsers, teams are both a talent pool and a bandwagon, team uniforms assign identity, yet merchandise sales indicate customer loyalty. Sports and businesses collaborate with numerous groups to improve possibilities for all athletes worldwide. The protection of the intellectual property is the organization's heart in today's technologically diverse world. It fosters goodwill, safeguards individuality, and encourages creativity and innovation. As Mark Getty put it, "Intellectual property is the oil of the twenty-first century."

IPL STANDS FOR INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY LEAGUE

The Indian Premier League (IPL) is the cricketing powerhouse's 21st-century contribution to the game, which is enormously popular in these world regions. The competition began as a response to a rebel tournament in the late 2000s, but its effect far exceeded expectations. The IPL is currently in its 16th season, yet it has maintained its popularity lead over copycat events that have begun elsewhere in the cricketing world. The tournament is so important that it is held even during the pandemic, although the T20 World Cup is not! The BCCI's blue-eyed boy is the league. It has not only revolutionized the way cricket is organized and played, but it has also permanently altered the game's economy and demographic composition. Some know the Indian Premier League as the Intellectual Property League.
